“A little.” she said, her breathing shallow to avoid the pain that came with heavy breathing, “Did you sleep well?” she asked, still feeling bad about waking him with her nightmares. Her eyes darted out the window, seeing the setting sun, “I slept all day?” she asked.

“I’m believe so, my dear.” Fflewddur plopped himself down and crossed his arms behind his head. He figured while the princess was in a deep sleep, he’d go off and explore the town. He had an intuition that she’d be asleep for a while, so it didn’t make sense for him to just stay in one place, which was one of the things he disliked the most. Besides, the people at the inn kept assuring him that she’d be in good care even if she woke up while he was absent.

It was a day well spent. Until he encountered Eilonwy the other night, he was thinking of passing through the town. But since he couldn’t leave it for a while, he thought he’d maybe check around all the places he overlooked at first. 

“I myself caught a good amount of sleep eventually. It’s a good thing those dreams you had didn’t resurface again. At least I’m sure they didn’t. But they seemed to be getting the best out of the both of us.”

“I cannot believe I slept the entire day away, and yet I feel like its barely been five minutes.” she sighed, putting a hand to her forehead, “I am terribly sorry about keeping you up. I still havent been able to expel those nightmares from my mind.” 

The bard shook his head, “Don’t trouble yourself over it. Though.. my mind’s a bit curious at the wrong times. I wonder what sort of dreams were those.” He thought of it for a short while, then suddenly he appeared to have a plan in mind, “Maybe talking about it would help! Uhm, perhaps, if we just give it a try, of course.” He added the last part hastily and nearly murmured it, thinking that the former statement was causing a string to waver. 

Given this situation at hand, he wasn’t going to let anything break what would be the only air of confidence.

“Its really nothing.” she said, “I’ll be fine.” she didn’t want to bother her friend with her meaningless dreams and memories. 

“Nothing? If those weren’t nothing, it wouldn’t have caused such a commotion the other time. Those aren’t just regular dreams that you can just sleep off. But… if you’re sure you’ll be fine, then well…” He gave a short moment of pause. So far since the night before, she only had those dreams once. Maybe he could leave it out of discussion for now, but if it were to happen again he would have to take different measures.

“Well, then I have full confidence.” He flinched in his bed and quickly sat up from the sharp, clear chime of the broken string, “But aside from that.. do you feel your wounds have gotten any better?”

You don’t know how it happened. You don’t know how it all came to this. Yet, only one thing sticks out prominently in your mind.

You were too late. You were all too late. Eilonwy’s “aunt” had complete control over her. When you had reunited with her, she couldn’t even remember your name. Achren convinced her you were all the enemy and no matter what you said; you could be retelling all those fun memories to a wall. There just was no use, it was either your life or hers.

So you killed her.

You befriended her when she was still a young, winsome lass. It was right after she had saved YOU from possible death and torture from the same woman who tormented her since her childhood. You hoped someday to repay her. She could have just ignored you and left you to your demise had Taran specifically instructed her to find Gwydion. No, she made a mistake and found you instead.

This is how you repaid her. Now she was left on the floor, bleeding out. The fire she had long withheld that was as bright as her red hair was gone. She was all but a shell of the girl you once knew.

Then she says it. The one thing that breaks you.

“I forgive you.”

That. At her last moments she finally remembers you. She must have realized then why it had to be done.

But that isn’t the only reason it tears you apart. The reason is you didn’t WANT to be repented for this. No, you didn’t want to be forgiven at all. No matter what the reason was, you did not want redemption for killing one of your dearest companions.

And then she goes around and..

She didn’t have to-

You didn’t even ask for it!

Just-just..
